A phenomenon unique to Japan, is the chaotic dancing paired during times of unrest. Since ancient times, after a natural disaster, epidemic, or political unrest, their have been a number of instances where hundred of thousands of people dance and parade in frenzy. It is said that large political changes occur a year after people abandon the dance. A well known example of this is the "Ejanaika" "its All Good" incident, where a mass dance broke out in 1867 at the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate Era (Edo Period).
