Striped pongee from Takasawa Textile that has been around since the Taisho era. The fine stripes look plain from a distance, but the knots of the pongee make it look expressive. Glossy pongee creates a mature atmosphere that blends in with the urban landscape.
Ueda Tsumugi is also known as sanura-zima (three back stripes) due to its durability, which allows the lining to be replaced three times. It is said that the name of Ueda Tsumugi was made famous by Masayuki Sanada and Yukimura, a father and son, and it is said that when he became famous in the Battle of Sekigahara, people sang, "Sanada is strong, but Ueda Tsumugi is also strong."
