Koishimaru: One of the varieties of silkworms.
This variety is used for the empress's silkworms in the imperial sericulture facility, and produces extremely thin, high-quality silk.
At one point during the Showa period, there was consideration of discontinuing breeding, but Empress Michiko, who was the Crown Princess at the time, insisted on keeping them and continued breeding.
