Asayo Tae Broken Check Pattern Purple/Black Lacquer (KAPUKI x Kondaya Genbei): Kimono | Taima Cloth

The "broken lattice" pattern, which is said to have existed in the Edo period, is a design that draws on the tradition of "kabukimono" (strange samurai), and by likening it to the breaking of a lattice, it expresses the power and energy to break through the status quo, as well as a strong mentality.
This is one of Hondaya Genbei's signature original patterns, which is a redesign of traditional Japanese patterns with a modern aesthetic sensibility.

Hemp cloth is not well known among Japanese people.

In fact, during the Jomon period, hemp grew in abundance across the Japanese archipelago and was widely used as a household item and food.
Cannabis is also considered a "sacred plant" and is offered to the gods as "Oonusa" in Shinto rituals, and is still used today as hemp string and rope in shrines.

After approximately three years of research and trial and error, "Masyotei" has been revived with a rich texture reminiscent of hemp cloth from hundreds of years ago.
Unlike the image of summer linen kimonos, these kimonos have a moist and soft texture, are warm in winter and cool in summer, and can be worn all year round.

The colors are black on a natural background and black on a KAPUKI special color.
