This paper pattern I met at a dyeing workshop in downtown Tokyo. The stencil itself, with its dynamic banana leaves and delicate patterns such as kanoko and mesh, creates a very aura-like feeling. The Ise Katagami used for hand-dyeing is commissioned to Okoshi Katagami Shoten and carved by stencil craftsmen over a period of 30 days. Founded in the 23rd year of the Meiji era, it is a summery and refreshing blue dyed by Ms. Kumiko Ishizuka, the 5th generation of "Ishizuka Senko", who has passed down the tradition of Edo Komon.
